Latin-American youth folk dancers wearing bright, glittering costumes and feather-lined headdresses captivated more than 3,300 revelers on November 5 at the downtown Clearwater Block Party—the second such party of 2016 sponsored by the Church of Scientology.
The colorful dance group, known as Mahetzi Folklorico, performed traditional dances in celebration of fall. The group teaches Latin-American children and teens traditional culture, instills heritage pride and inspires productive lives.
Mahetzi was one of 13 nonprofits participating in the block party, which extended down the 500 block of Cleveland Street from Fort Harrison to Garden Avenue. The festivities further included complimentary food vendors, live entertainment, a raffle and family activities—from balloon art and caricature drawing to a children’s train along Watterson Avenue.
The diverse participants fulfilled a common purpose throughout the evening—to make our community a better place to live.
