RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Freedom Fighters

Dates matter—especially when freedom has been in the balance. In the tumultuous history of Eastern and Central Europe, Hungarians have a chronology of freedom. 1848-49, the Hungarian Revolution against Austria. 1949, the takeover of Eastern Europe by Soviet communism. 1956, Hungary’s revolt against the Soviets. 1989, the fall of communist domination of Hungary.

CHURCHES

Moving, Shaking, Harlem

It didn’t take long. Within hours of Scientology opening a new Church in Harlem—along with a Community Center—humanitarian projects were being conceived, started up and thrown into high gear.

CHURCHES

Spiritual Path

It is dusk on the evening before the big event and within the massive new Church of Scientology Advanced Organization, last-minute touches are being addressed. Open Doors To a Better World

VOLUNTEER MINISTERS

Scientology Volunteers Get The Job Done

Overall, 350 Volunteer Ministers served in the Haiti relief effort. Coming from 22 nations, they delivered 260,000 pounds of emergency material and medical supplies and became a stable point for other relief efforts. “When the other people came,” says Robinson, “I’ll tell you who they met. They met the guys in yellow jackets.”

Cradled beneath chilly Andean peaks, but soaring at 8,500 feet above sea level, Bogotá isn’t what you might think. It’s a thriving metropolis of nearly 8 million people.

SCIENTOLOGY NEWS

In the Middle

In his address to the Scientologists, government officials, religious leaders and academics who gathered for the ceremony, Mr. Miscavige said, “We come to a long-anticipated turning point in European history—a moment when a ribbon falls on a new Ideal Org—and so signals a new era of tolerance, brotherhood, compassion and spiritual power.”

Global Reach

Since its inception, Scientology has been a religion about inclusion. One of its most fundamental achievements is its consistent availability to cultures and continents around the globe, including Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America and Australia.
